What must I do when there is a motor accident?
If your vehicle is driveable

If your vehicle is not driveable
At the scene of the accident, contact Your Insurer, or your broker to report the claim and to get authorisation to tow the vehicle.
If a third party is involved and / or passengers are injured
Remember: Do not admit liability under any circumstances. Your Insurer will deal with all the liability claims on your behalf, provided that the terms of your policy have been met in all respects. If you receive any claim from a third party, please pass that correspondence on to us immediately, so that we may deal with the claim in accordance with your policy contract. We have a dedicated team dealing with third party claims. This team also specialises in the recovery of the cost of repairs including your excess, should the accident be caused by the other driver.
If your vehicle is repairable
You may choose the repairer from a wide range of panel beaters once our motor engineer has completed the assessment of the damage. These repairs are guaranteed by Your Insurer for 12 months.
If your vehicle is a total loss/write off You will be required to furnish us with the following:
|•||The original Certificate of Registration of the vehicle.|
|•||A letter confirming any amount owing to the Hire Purchase company or the like.|
|•||Two signed off Change of Ownership forms.|
What are the procedures in the event of a theft / hijack claim?
Report the claim immediately to the SAP and obtain a police reference number.
A claim form must be completed, giving special attention to the following (thereby helping us to settle your claim without delays):
|•||Vehicle details eg. Opel Corsa 1.6 GSE 1998|
|•||The status of the vehicle eg. new / used / built up|
|•||A list and proof of purchase and installation of any extras fitted to the vehicle|
|•||A list of any special markings or identification marks and the correct SAPS reference number to assist us with the possible recovery of your vehicle.|
|•||A letter from the bank or relevant institution if the vehicle is the subject of a Hire Purchase agreement|
|•||The Registration Paper of the vehicle (not the licence renewal document)|
|•||The signed original ADV and NCO forms|
|•||The certificate of proof of purchase and installation of any fitted tracking device or approved immobiliser|
All the keys, normal and spare keys including service keys, immobiliser and electronic keys

This section covers claims for a loss incurred as a result of a burglary. What are the procedures in the event of a burglary claim?
|•||Report the incident to the police and obtain a police reference number.|

|•||An Internal Claims Consultant, External Loss Adjuster or an investigator will then be appointed by Your Insurer, who will contact you within 24 hours.|
|•||A description of each item, stating when and where it was purchased and what you paid for it.|
|•||The make, model and serial numbers of items where applicable.|
|•||Original purchase documents such as invoices and receipts, instruction manuals and photographs.|
If you had previously prepared for the possibility of a loss by videotaping or photographing your possessions and filling out an Inventory Form, have this information available during the assessment.
The claims will be settled by means of replacements and / or payment, at Your Insurer’s option. Any settlement will be less discounts available to Your Insurer, and subject to relevant excesses and limits applicable to your policy. Settlements by means of payment will be by way of Electronic Transfer to your bank account, or a not negotiable cheque. Our staff is always available to advise you through the procedures to ensure that your claim is dealt with promptly.

The contents are covered for their current replacement cost as long as the sum insured represents the total value of all contents at their current replacement values.
